Welcome to our First Grade class website!   We are excited about our journey together this year and hope that you had a tremendous summer.  We at Twin Lakes Academy are a community of learners eager to blaze new trails, discover, and explore.  We desire to become strong academically, to respect each person's diversity, and to work side by side in a cooperative manner.  My goal is to build better readers, writers, thinkers and leaders who work together cooperatively and confidently, and we are proud to have wonderful parents who will encourage our endeavors.  

         This class website is where you can find all you need or want to know about our class and Twin Lakes Academy Elementary.  Administration and I understand how important it is to stay informed of your child's education and class/school activities, and that is why I have put together this website so that at your convenience you can check for updates, upcoming events, homework, grades, etc.  Consistent and effective communication with parents and students is crucial in creating the best learning environment for children.  Therefore, I encourage you to review the classroom website often so that you can stay in touch with all the classroom and school events that will be taking place throughout the year.  This website can also help you in e-mailing or calling me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.  

About the Teacher:

         My name is Karen Hornsby and I am a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, and pursuing a Master's degree in Educational Leadership.  I graduated in 2008, and my head is full of new ideas to make my classroom highly engaging, enjoyable, and interactive.  I have three years of teaching experience and moved to Jacksonville in June of last year, along with my daughter and husband.  We are stoked to be in such a great city that is full of life and energy.  

I am so proud to be a part of the Twin Lakes Academy family and to have your child in my class this year.  I am looking forward to a year full of learning, growth, and development. I assure you that first grade will be a prosperous year for your child and that, at the end of the year, your child will feel accomplished and confident in their learning capabilities.  GO WILDCAT!!!!
